Marvelous Girl Has Moved!

pole_dancer_dollThe Internet is buzzing right now with parents in an uproar after pictures of a supposed pole dancer doll were posted online. No one really knows who originally took the photos and where the doll was found.

Apparently the doll dances when the music is turned on, and she goes up, down and around the pole. While the doll doesn’t actually look very provocative, but rather innocent like a child, the very concept of the is causing great distress amongst concerned parents.

And that’s not the only “kids” item parents are angry about.  One company is making baby-tees with nipple tassles.  ParentDish interviewed the designer behind TwistedTwee, which is sells t-shirts for babies and preschoolers that include nipple tassels.

The designer, Suzi Warren, told said that “The Nipple Tassel t-shirt was designed as a response to my own distaste at seeing mini versions of sexy clothes on young children. Five-year-olds wearing slashed mini skirts and boob tubes, little thumb-sucking Britneys.”

dj am diedAccording to TMZ, DJ AM has passed away.  Apparently he was found in his New York apartment around 5:20 p.m. and drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.

According to sources, DJ AM,  had not been seen or heard from for a few days — one of his friends went to check on him, but got no response after knocking on his apartment door.

After the friend called the police, they broke down the door and then found DJ AM’s body.

Back in September of 2008, DJ AM and Travis Barker survived a plane crash in South Carolina. Four people died in the crash — which was caused when the airplane aborted takeoff and then ran off the runway. DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors.

knock off suede wedgesFall is here and suede is back.  Marvelous Girl chatted with Nancy leWinter, editorial direct of OneStopPlus.com about this year’s hot fall trends:

MG:  What types of shoes are on trend for fall?

NL:  Boots of every type are very important this fall.  Wedges give height and stability, and both wedges and booties are very flattering both under pants and with dresses and skirts when worn with tights.  The peep toe is a retro take that makes the look soft and sexy.  Tall boots are now for everyone because they’re available in wide and extra-wide calf widths and can be worn over leggings or under a great pencil skirt.  This season is also all about detail on footwear, from ruffles and ruching to studs and snaps.  And heels don’t have to be high to be high fashion with fabulous flats.

MG:  Why is suede a good fabric to use for fall?

NL:  Suede is softer than leather and molds to the foot…great over tights.  It also comes in the season’s best colors, but it is important to make sure suede is weatherized to avoid spotting.

MG:  Do you specifically take high-end designers collections into consideration when picking your inventory for the season?

NL:  Our selection is so large that we are able to provide a variety of trends, including the trends followed by high-end designers.  Most important, we recognize our customers want style and comfort, and that is a trend we can all love.

Jaycee Lee Dugard

Jaycee Lee Dugard

Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was abducted 18 years ago, has been found alive and well and her captors are in custody.

The now 29-year-old woman walked into a police station in tiny Antioch, Calif., Wednesday, her stepfather Carl Probyn told ABCNews.com.

“I had personally given up hope,” he said. “I had just hoped for a recovery and to find the people responsible.” He added, “I’ve actually won the lotto.”

Not too many details have been releases, as the authorities are waiting for a press conference at 6 p.m. ET, but court records show that a search warrant was issued for 1554 Walnut Ave., Antioch, the address of Philllip and Nancy Garrido.

The Garridos are in police custody, charged with kidnapping to commit rape and bail was set at $1 million.

Jaycee was taken on June 10, 1991 as she tried to catch the bus to school, and her stepfather could hear her screams. “I saw them pull her in and I tried to get her,” Probyn said.

When asked about Jaycee’s mother, Terry Probyn, he said, “She’s in shock.”  He added that the FBI told his wife that “they have Jaycee and the people she was with.”

“She sounds like she’s okay,” he said. “She had a conversation with my wife and she remembers things. I hope she’s been well treated this entire 18 years.”

There has yet to be a DNA test to confirm the woman’s claims, but the Probyn’s said that she remembers her childhood.

Update:  Apparently Jaycee’s abductor, Phillip Garrido, is a religious freak who kept the girl imprisoned in the backyard.  He is also said to have fathered two daughters with Jaycee, aged 15 and 11-years-old.

Your special little someone is about to arrive and baby is going to need an equally special birth announcement – after all, this is his/her debut  and first impressions are everything.  It may seem like an easy task, but once couples get started they may find it more challenging than they initially thought.

Here are five tips for creating the perfect birth announcement for your little bundle of joy:

1. Select a card that shows your family’s style—unique and individual to represent you and your new baby.

2. Selecting a photo—choose one with sentimental value that evokes a special memory.

3. Keep it simple—a simple introduction followed by the birth details such as name, weight and birth date is ideal.

4. Save time and money by using an Internet photo card company, like www.photoaffections.com.  Easily select a template and then insert the photo and text. Once complete, the birth announcements are delivered directly to your home.

5. Research photo card company websites prior to the birth. Then, insert the photo and information to complete the project when baby arrives. Traditional etiquette suggests birth announcements be sent within 6 months of the birth.

tiffany quarterly earnings 2009

Sales are lackluster for high-end jewelry retailers this year as Tiffany & Co. is declining much faster than the jewelry industry as whole, according to industry research firm IBISWorld. Analysts at the firm expect industry revenue to fall 4.8 percent to $28.26 billion this year, with price competition from big-box retailers, like Walmart, stealing market share sparkle from traditional jewelry retailers

“Although luxury shoppers represent a small elite portion of the population, they are the primary target market for high-end jewelers,” said George Van Horn, senior analyst with IBISWorld. “Even the wealthy are cutting back on extra discretionary purchases like jewelry and watches.”

Tiffany is expected to generate earnings per share of about $0.34, which will represent a decline of 46 percent from the $0.63 cents per share compared to the same quarter in 2008.  Also, revenue for the quarter is expected to be about $600 million, which will be down 17.3 percent from the $732 million for the same time in 2008.

The fourth quarter of 2009 should see a significant revenue boost compared to the tough Christmas trading period of 2008. It is during this period, the fourth quarter, when jewelry stores will begin to realize more solid returns and better operating performance.  As a result, profitability is expected to rise from 10.5 percent of revenue in 2009 to 11.2 percent of revenue in 2010, as luxury spending slowly returns.

While some improvement in industry operating conditions is expected in 2010 as the economy improves, IBISWorld industry risk ratings for jewelry retailing will remain at a very high level.  Despite some modest improvement in ratings during the past six months, jewelry retailing continues to have the highest risk rating among the 60 different forms of U.S. retailing that IBISWorld monitors.

Over the coming few years, one of the major challenges for the industry will be the entrance of De Beers into the Jewelry Stores Industry. De Beers is planning to stake its ground as a retailer with a long-term plan to open around 150 stores under the De Beers LV joint venture with LVMH Moet Louis Vuitton. IBISWorld estimates that this move by De Beers will further increase the competition and boost the consolidation that has been under way over the past few years.

“The Jewelry Stores industry is on the precipice of a restructure at both retail and wholesale level that forces players to move quickly to ensure long-term viability,” added Van Horn.  “Tiffany will continue to be challenged in finding new ways of selling its products without compromising its brand.”

Las Vegas is an adult playground, the perfect place for bachelorette’s to let loose with their girlfriends and enjoy the last days of single-dom. Whether it’s a wild pool party followed by an even wilder night on the town or a relaxing day at the spa and dinner at a swanky restaurant, Sin City has something to satisfy every Bachelorette.

With so many different hotel options both on and off the strip, Oyster Hotel Reviews sent its reporters undercover to determine which hotels struck the perfect balance of relaxation and debauchery for brides-to-be.

“Men and women have differing tastes when it comes to partying in Vegas. Women may be inclined to choose a hotel with relaxing day spa to spend time with her girl friends over choosing a hotel with access to great golf courses, for example,” says Will Begeny, Senior Editor for Oyster Hotel Reviews. “Palazzo, Bellagio and the Wynn topped our list for best bachelorette parties for their spa services, hot nightlife and softer styled décor.”

  1. Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino – Average Price: $299/night
Styled a little softer and more feminine than the bachelor-swank of rival Wynn, the enormous rooms at the Palazzo could host a small party. But it’s what’s outside the rooms that makes this our top pick: The Tao and Lavo nightclubs are among the hippest party scenes on the Strip). The hotel’s world-famous Canyon Ranch Spa is arguably the best spa in town. The hotel houses some of the Strip’s best restaurants, including the Japanese-Peruvian-Brazilian cuisine of SushiSamba. And the shops at the Palazzo include top names like Tory Burch and Diane von Furstenberg, plus an 85,000-square-foot Barney’s New York.
  2. Bellagio – Average Price: $239/night
Designed to look like an enormous Italian villa, Bellagio offers serenity (it even has its own botanical gardens) as well as a prime central location for hitting parties on or off the Strip (virtually all the notable clubs are just a short cab ride away). Pamper the whole party at the spa’s whirlpools, eucalyptus steam room, and sauna. The group can also enjoy spa manicures and pedicures together while sipping champagne in a private room. Pick from one of the hotel’s 20-plus restaurants for dinner. Later, burn off the booze and food with a Pilates, cardio, or body-sculpting class at the excellent fitness center.
  3. Wynn Las Vegas – Average Price: $289/night
Luxury pick Wynn is home to Tryst, one of Vegas’ swankiest nightclubs. Getting beyond the bouncer can be tough, but a group of women should fare well (short skirts might help). The hotel’s more intimate nightclub, Blush, has outdoor seating. Beyond the clubs, the gorgeous spa, and the classy “European pool” (where you can sunbathe topless), the biggest perk at the Wynn is its enormous rooms – perfect for having your whole group over for cocktails before heading out on the town.
  4. Caesars Palace Hotel & Casino – Average Price: $218/night
Balancing low-key partying with ample pampering, Caesars Palace is a great choice for bachelorettes. (Don’t let that bachelor party gone awry in The Hangover dissuade you.) Qua Baths & Spa, one of the best spas in Vegas, offers, among other delights, its own Roman baths, Laconium steam baths, and Vichy showers; a day pass costs $45. The two-story Pure nightclub has four distinct spaces, each with its own DJ, so you can scope out the right crowd for your mood. And the adults-only Venus Pool is a bit more laid-back than some of the other, more notorious pool parties in Vegas.
  5. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino – Average Price: $216/night
Hard Rock is for ladies who are, well, ready to rock. By day, the Beach Club Pool is about the craziest scene on the Strip — especially on Sunday, when it hosts the Rehab pool party. At night, the clubs Body English and Wasted Space — both known to attract celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Kevin Federline — are Vegas favorites. After-hours, you can scarf down some American fare at the 24-hour restaurant.

For girls on a budget, this place sound great too:

The Palms Casino Resort – Average Price: $82/night
If what the bride-to-be needs is to feel sexy, head to the Palms’ coed hammam (Turkish bath) at the chic Drift Spa. When night falls, hit the hotel’s popular Rain nightclub or Moon, another club with live DJs, multiple bars, and a retractable roof. For an especially girly getaway, consider the 2,350-square-foot Barbie Suite, decorated with framed Barbie prints, a fireplace, super-pink Barbie patterns on the pillows and walls, and 65 Barbie dolls mounted on a mirror.
