gluten free dietEydi Bauer suffered from undiagnosed chronic health problems for over 20 years. She experienced joint pain, fatigue, bloating and intestinal problems, menstrual irregularities, depression and anxiety. It took a serious health crisis before she got to the cause of her problems. At the age of 34, after years of working with all types of doctors with no success, she was finally diagnosed correctly with celiac disease.

As soon as she went gluten free, her health was restored.

Gluten is the protein commonly found in wheat flour and it’s in most popular foods in the all American diet. One person in every hundred has celiac disease. One out of three will show antibodies against gluten, indicating their immune system is reacting to wheat and flour products. Gluten intolerance can cause serious damage to the human body.

More and more people are waking up to the fact that some of the most common foods we eat can be hazardous to our health. Even Oprah went on a gluten free diet this past year.

But is it the right thing for you to do?

Dr. Eydi Bauer, now a holistic doctor and chiropractor for 14 years in Mendocino, California, is author of the new book Life After Bread. She says, “Gluten intolerance is a serious and widespread nutritional problem that is causing an incredible array of health problems in America. It is also largely unrecognized by the Western medical establishment.”

Dr. Bauer says that people with gluten sensitivity can experience a wide range of symptoms of pain and inflammation. Gluten intolerance can cause back and joint pain, stiffness, headache, fatigue, digestive distress, arthritis, skin disorders and itchiness, anxiety, depression and other psychological problems.

But simply going on a gluten free diet may not be the right course of action.

“The critical step,” she recommends, “is to order a stool sample, deliver it to Enterolab (Enterolab.com), and find out if you have celiac disease or gluten intolerance.”

If you do have celiac disease, then going gluten free is now easier than it has ever been before. Over 1,300 gluten free products are now available on supermarket shelves in the United States. There are alternatives to most common favorite foods including breads, bagels, beer, pasta, cereals, and even cakes, and other mainstay foods you are accustomed to.

You do need to make sure that you maintain proper nutrition but you will quickly find that becoming gluten free may give you relief from pain and discomfort, increase your strength and restore your vitality.

chocolate study women heartDo you ever wish you could eat chocolate every single day? Well, some lucky women are getting the chance as scientists are looking for women willing to eat chocolate every day for a year — for medical science of course!

Researchers in England are trying to prove chocolate lowers the risk of heart disease and need 40 women to conduct their study.

The majority of the women must eat two bars of “super-strength chocolate specially formulated by Belgian chocolatiers” daily for one year while undergoing several tests on the health of their hearts. The remaining participants will eat regular chocolate as a placebo.

Volunteers for the research should be menopausal but aged under 75 and have type two diabetes. Peter Curtis, the study’s coordinator, said, “A successful outcome could be the first step in developing new ways to improve the lives of people at increased risk of heart disease.”

coffeeResearchers at the University of Florida say that regular coffee consumption may reverse memory problems associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

When testing this theory on mice, the reachers discovered that a group given caffeine tested better on “memory and thinking skill” trials than those given only water.

The BBC explained, “[T]he brains of the mice given caffeine showed nearly a 50% reduction in levels of the beta amyloid protein, which forms destructive clumps in the brains of dementia patients.”

Scientists discovered that caffeine limits production of two enzymes that form the harmful proteins.  But scientists  warn that there is still a great deal of research needed to study caffeine’s effects on humans before any serious claims about using the stimulant as a treatment drug can be made.

It’s no surprise that researchers are finding that caffeine reverses memory problems associated with aging.  Caffeine has been a hot anti-aging ingredient in skincare for a while. In recent months, more indications of caffeine’s beneficial properties are surfacing.  Caffeine-rich products, like Relastin Ultra Emollient, are becoming popular for their ability to smooth and repair skin.
